Reminiscent of icicles that hang in sheets beneath window sills and roofs, Nilous also brings to mind the traditional, tasselled lampshades of the 18th and 19th Century – those made in jewel-toned velvets and silks that were finished with long continuous rows of fringing.
Another more modern piece of lighting design is also evoked by the simple, rectangular form and horizontal hang: the fluorescent strip light. However, it is as if the utilitarian plastic casing that typically houses the fluorescent tube has melted, dripping down over the light in shaggy panels.
Nilous takes the same basic elements, transforming them into something more beautiful, more sculptural.

Nilous: adj. Anxious to imagine how many times you must’ve barely avoided catastrophe – which makes it feel like something of a fluke that you’ve survived this long, as if you’re on an unbroken streak of coin flips, heads after heads after heads, wondering when your luck is going to run out. – John Koenig
