Solid and immutable, like the trunk of a tree, Galagog evokes a sense of long-time, which is present in layers that have accrued, and later decayed.
Hung horizontally, the form is reminiscent of a railway sleeper – and yet its surface feels alive, twisting and turning, writhing with energy. Despite its apparent solidity, there is a clay-like malleability to the highly contoured surface, as if one can sense the artist’s hand as it presses and pinches the raw material into its final form.
Whilst the shape and texture feel familiar and organic, the deep, pink-purple has a somewhat alien quality – a jewel-toned material from another galaxy.
