Cascading like paint from a tube – or wax dripping from a lighted candle – Funkenz is the physical embodiment of gravity, the incontrovertible pull towards the centre of the earth.

Layers of deep, lustrous red build, strand over strand, to form a column of sorts. Grand in scale and defiantly vertical, the Funkenz is almost an architectural proposition – its presence in the room is as incontrovertible as the walls, the floor, or the ceiling from which it hangs.

Dense and concentrated, the strands eventually give way as they fall to the ground – fraying, splintering and tangling together, and through this process gaps appear, revealing its hollow core. The exposed inner reveals something of its making – that the first layer is like the last, as if carved from stone or moulded from clay.
